'Govt orders total ban on DO system

Dhaka, July 24 (bdnews24.
com) — The commerce ministry has instructed the mill owners to stop supplying edible oil and sugar through delivery order (DO) system.
The ministry sent the directives to the mill owners on Sunday after its monitoring cell received allegations that some businessmen were still doing business through the
DO system.
In its bid to do away with the mischief of middlemen, the government implemented the distribution system to replace the DO system for sugar and edible oil from June
21.
Seeking anonymity, a commerce ministry official told in its field investigation, the monitoring cell saw that the system was still in the market.
"That's why the directives were sent again to the mill owners," he said.
The ministry in its directive said, "After the implementation of the Essential Commodities Marketing and Distribution Appointment Order, there is no space for the DO
system.
If the DO products issued before June 20 are not delivered yet, they cannot be delivered anymore.
"Dhaka district administration commerce department executive magistrate Abu Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman told bdnews24.com that cases could be filed on Monday against some DO-using businessmen.
