'Moudud implicated Biplob: Qamrul

Sun, Jul 24th, 2011

Dhaka, July 23 – State minister for law Qamrul has alleged that senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed was the man who had implicated A H M Biplob in the murder case.

Biplob, son of Laxmipur municipality mayor and an Awami League leader Abu Taher, was convicted for kidnapping and subsequently killing Laxmipur BNP organising secretary and lawyer Nurul in 2003.

He was awarded death sentence by the court, but recently he got the presidential clemency.

The main opposition has been protesting the clemency, saying it has disgraced the law.

On Saturday Qamrul said, "After Nurul killing in 2000, former president of the Laxmipur Lawyers' Association, Tarek Uddin Mahmud Chowdhury, filed the first case as a plaintiff mentioning none as accused.

But following a petition by Moudud Ahmed subsequently, 10 more people including Taher, his wife and three sons, were made accused.

""Later, another 24 persons were made accused.

Moudud had exercised his influenced in the case as the then law minister.

"As a result, this verdict came, he said, adding that "all judgements are not real judgements".

He was speaking at a discussion in Bangabandhu Manab Kalyan (Human Welfare) Parishad at the National Press Club on Saturday.

President Zillur Rahman pardoned him following a petition to this effect by Taher.

On the country's contemporary politics, he said, "In Bangladesh, there are two forces —pro- and anti-liberation force.

Anti-liberation force has come to realise that they can't come to power in Bangladesh.

That is why they want to destroy democracy in the name of movement and are trying to create instability in the country".

He further said, "Khaleda Zia's failure was that she made her two sons brutes.

Her sons were laundering money abroad.

Tarique is an accused in the August 21 grenade attack case.

They wanted to kill Sheikh Hasina using grenade.

They murdered 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, the present president's wife.

"The minister also said that they were now trying to save those killers and also those accused of war crimes.

"It will not yield any positive result," he said, "The war crimes trial won't stop.

"President of Bangabandhu Human Welfare Parishad Hemayet Uddin Ahmed, shipping minister Shahjahan Khan and MP Jobeda Khatun Parul were also speaking at the discussion.
